Scholarship Guidelines

  1. Purpose – To provide financial assistance for a member of the Dan River Emmaus Community, who wants to team or to sponsor a pilgrim, but does not have the financial resources to do so.

  2. Guidelines:

    1. A member can only get assistance from this fund, for sponsorship or teaming, once a year.

    2. An application for financial aid [click here to download] must be filled out and submitted with the teaming or sponsorship application.

    3. The Fund Administrators, made up of the Registrar, Treasurer, and the two (2) Walk Lay Directors, will have the sole and final authority.

    4. If the person seeking the financial aid for teaming is selected, the Weekend Lay Director will notify the other Fund Administrators and get the Administrators' approval before contacting the person to be a team member.

    5. If a pilgrim is selected for a walk, whose sponsor is seeking financial aid for sponsorship, the Registrar will notify the other Fund Administrators and get the Administrators' approval before the sponsor or pilgrim is contacted.

    6. No member has the authority to tell a person wishing to team or a sponsor that financial aid will be used to help them, until and unless, they have first submitted the financial aid application and the application has been approved by the Fund Administrators.

    7. A sponsor or team member, who did not send a financial aid application with the application to team or sponsor, will not be eligible for financial aid "after the fact."

    8. This fund applies to Dan River Community Walks only.

    9. If a team member, who has received aid, has to drop out prior to walk, any portion of the teaming fee that was paid by the team member will be refunded.

    10. If a pilgrim, whose sponsor has received aid, has to drop out prior to the walk, any portion of the sponsorship fee that was paid by the sponsor will be refunded.

    11. Other rules are the same as for those receiving financial aid:

      1. Pilgrims are to include a $50.00 deposit with their application, which is not refundable.

      2. If a pilgrim is not selected, their deposit is carried over to the next walk.

      3. If a pilgrim declines to go on three (3) walks, the deposit is forfeited.

      4. The sponsorship fee is not due until their pilgrim is selected.

  3. Contributions: Contributions can be made to this fund by mailing a check to the Treasurer with "Financial Aid Fund" written on the memo portion of the check.
